Question:

Electric motorcycle project?

I am planning to strip out an old motorcycle and refitting an electric motor system. Looking online, many people have done it themselves with success.

I have found a motor that I im considering using - 24V 9HP 6.6KW DC Electric Motor. Is this a viable motor for the project? Is it possible to obtain a suitable controller for this motor? Thankyou

  1. I would say yes.  You won't have a huge amount of power or high top speed, but you'll go.

First link is to a guy with an electric motorcycle retrofit.

Second link is to 24 V motor controllers.

  2. I'd suggest that you look more carefully at those 'successful' installations you read about.  Go see something in person, or try corresponding with the people.

Your problem will be batteries.  Unless you're interested in a bike that travels no more than a few miles before needing a recharge, they'll either be too heavy for the bike to move, or they'll cost more than a new motorcycle.

  3. THEIR'S A NEW ONE WHEEL MOTORCYCLE RECENTLY PATENTED IN POPULAR SCIENTIST THAT WILL INTEREST YOU. ITS CALLED A UNICYCLE. ON FRONT PAGE

  4. Good site where people  discuss this kind of thing:

  5. depnds on how heavy the bike is and how fast you want to go
