I m a beginner to this whole guitar thing, but i m hiring a teacher. My style of music is http://youtube.com/watch?v=bWlwa2l8RSM&feature=PlayList&p=70DDDCC87A76234B&index=6 i m going to spend no more then 300 dollars for my guitar. i guess the real question here is...

should i start with an electric guitar or an acoustic?

if it would be a good idea to start with acoustic then get the electric i can do that too?

so which is better for my style, experiance (none), and the fact i m gettting a teacher to at least learn the basics then i will learn myself with internet and books after i learn basics.

  1. Without question - start with an acoustic. It's slightly harder to play, but will result in you becoming a better player!

    You'll be glad you did.

  2. Electric is an easier to learn guitar in the beginning, because the strings aren't as hard as on an acoustic.  Also, your style of music requires an amp and distortion, which you would fine in an electric guitar.

I started with an electric guitar and haven't been disappointed since.

  3. you should buy acoustic guitar because your basics will be cleared. I have also started to learn guitar and my teacher also asked me to buy acoustic.

  4. This is a very interesting question, and I didnt listen to your example but I think you should keep my tips in mind.  1 acoustics are a cheaper initial investment for an OK one.  BTW I would suggest buying all of your gear through Musiciansfriend.com, thats where I get my stuff for WAY cheaper than the music stores.  Acoustics are harder on the fingers, and do not allow for easy stylistic flare. (Bends, hammering, etc).  An electric is very unforgiving if you strike a bad note, IT IS AMPLIFIED.  You will also need an amp and cables, pedals maybe... etc.  A good electric guitar will sound like c**p through a cheap AMP.  So everything has to be moderately good to OK to make good sound.  Acoustics are more forgiving, and will increase finger strength rapidly.  Either way, a new guitarist will quit if their crappy gear is discouraging in that it is hard to play or sounds like c**p.  I can search for a decent electric or acoustic as a suggestion if you like.  Good Luck

  5. wooohooo GAZETTE get a electric...i can play cassis

  6. You can get a really nice one that is both electric and acoustic, and is pretty stylish to boot.  Based on that video though you might just want an electric guitar, if you're gonna rock out and look badass.

  7. You want a guitar that is easy to handle for your size and size of your hands. Fretboard can't be too wide.  Acoustics can easily be made electrified with a Markley pickup to fit the soundhole.  For true sound, an acoustic is the way to go.

  8. You should start with whatever guitar is best for the style you want to play, so in this case you should start with an electric guitar.  Although you can learn just as easily with an acoustic, an electric will hold your interest better and thus you will be more inclined to keep practicing and succeed.

    Good luck.

  9. I'm partial to acoustic. I think that you can show more expression and individuality when your guitar isn't screaming at you.

  10. I started with acoustic,

But it doesn't really matter, just pick what makes you feel the best. You can't rally play your style of music with an acoustic guitar though.

  11. i started with a acoustic and you could get that or an electric for one hundred some times including the amp at pawn shops

  12. Acoustic is better to learn on because you learn to push down to the frets start electric and it will be very hard to switch.

  13. electric.

you won't be able to get the sound of your music style with just an acoustic guitar.

    good luck!

  14. An acoustic guitar will probably be more beneficial in the long run. I always recommend starting on an acoustic. Although, it's not really that important. You can learn on either. Acoustic will be better for building finger strength though.

  15. acoustic

  16. if i were you i would start with an electric.  i started with an electric, and it was so much easier to play.  it was easy to hold down the strings, easy to get my hand around the neck of the guitar, it wasnt big and bulky, it was just overall a lot easier than playing an acoustic.  also, you can get a pretty decent electric for under 300, its harder to find a good acoustic for that price. and also since your into music that has electric guitars rather than acoustic, if you started out with acoustic it wouldnt really make that much sense unless you want to play acoustic songs too.   and if you want to get a acoustic after you learn on a electric is fairly easy too.

and dont worry, your guitar teacher will help you out with everything, if you still dont get a good answer to this question, then just ask your teacher.
