  1. There both in all honestly the same thing  you should play the one you like best. If you want an acoustic get an acoustic if you want an electric get an electric get what you want that way you'll be more inspired to play

    Now as advantages and disadvantages

    acoustic------

pros: You can play it without amplification and be heard,

Has that sweet warm awesome acoustic sound that you can't get anywhere else, and it may strengthen fingers better(but this however is mostly speculation it depends more on the thickness of the strings and the neck i have personally played electric guitars with more string resistance then acoustics). It provides that sweet sweet acoustic rhythm we all love

cons: Huge body hard to play on lower frets especially when soloing so it can get uncomfortable, often the strings can be so thick that there extremely hard to bend. You won't be able to get all the great sounds of a plugged in electric guitar.  The acoustic can be used to play any genre but in shines in genres of music that are more soft and melodic best for rhythm(meaning chords, chord progressions, etc which is why its probably associated with begining guitarist and songwriting).Oh and if you plan on getting an acoustic- electric guitar to "combine the best of both worlds" then heres another con the sound can be pretty one dimensional since an acoustic-electric guitar lacks pickups (those things on a guitar that gives it its variety of tones)

    electric---------

pros: Its has a those sounds we all love from the smooth clean sound that comes from jazz to the all out crush of metal. It has a thinner body so that you can play on the lower frets easily. one word:pickups that provide a range of different tones. It's built for soloing(playing a variety of single notes or riffs-a  pharse of notes thats pleasing to the ear) strings are easier to bend(thanks to the tailpiece)

cons: You can't really hear it without an amp(note i was able to hear it good enough without amplification to practice). They're a good bit heavier(this could be a good or bad thing depending). Though it provides kick tale rhythm if you love the authentic sound of an acoustic you're going to have to get an actual acoustic  no acoustic sim on the guitar will suffice.

    You

Superpros: theres not one thing you could learn on an acoustic that you couldn't learn on the electric and vice versa a notes a note . So get the one you want there both great choses and each of them holds a very special place in the world of music.

So in conclusion go for it get which one you want and play

Feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions

Oh and this acoustic is cheaper than electric or electric is cheaper then acoustic is just c**p. You can find great prices for both. So don't let cheapiest be an object you can find a guitar acoustic or electric for very cheap prices since companies are offering beginner packs or beginners guitars. so once again get what YOU WANT

  2. You should play the one that's appropriate for the music you like because it will keep you involved, interested, and practicing.

  3. Well it depends, I'm guessing since you dont know your a beginner, but personally I prefer the acoustic.

    Acoustic

    ---------------

Advantages - Better to learn how to play, develops finger strength, and excellent for classical music.

Disadvantages - Limited to classical music and acoustic music.

    Electric

    ------------

Advantages - Sounds like every note is right, good for rocking out.

Disadvantages - Expensive, more pieces, not good for someone who wants to be good.

  4. I'm a metalhead. I started on a classical guitar and taught myself basic stuff from there. Just recently, I got my first electric, schecter c-1 hellraiser.

    Acoustic:

    Pros:

    Great for beginning

Softer music, and more classical music.

Often cheaper, unless you go with a highend model.

    No cords or amp required.

    Cons:

    Not as loud

Not nearly as many different tones can be played.

    No distortion

    No effects

    Electric guitar:

    Pros:

    Amplifier with effects and distortion.

    Louder

    Pinch harmonics! (squealies)

    Much wider tone range.

A lot more fun to mess around with.

    Cons:

Usually cost more altogether. Amp, cords, guitar, effects pedals, etc.

    More to haul around.

Hard to get that "Perfect" tone. And most people end up always trying to find it.

Anyways, if you are a beginner, which I'm guessing you are, you should start off with a cheapo acoustic and play around with it and see if you like it. Learn some easy songs that you like. I started with Iron Maiden songs because they are pretty nice to learn with. And always have fun!

  5. Electric is easier because of the thinner neck, but you will have to purchase an amplifier.  Play both.
