Question:

Electric out in bedroom only...not the circuit breaker?

My son went to plug in a cord to the outlet behind the TV. Problem is that the plastic part with the prong openings is missing. He wasn't looking and just sticking the cord wherever thinking he would hit the two holes. All of the electric went out in the bedroom (this bedroom only, everything else is fine). I checked the circuit breakers.....all of them are on not got kicked off. This is a 1974 Festival mobile home....if this helps anyone with ideas. The outlet does look burnt. My son is ok...thank God!

  1. Of course you need to replace that outlet. More so if it looks burnt. Do that first and it may fix the other outlets. It could be the shorted outlet caused a bad connection elsewhere.

These days they connect one outlet to another to another.

You should unplug anything from the outlets not working. You are a bit at risk knowing you have a bad connection someplace.

I had one where the bad outlet, the bad connection, was in another room from where I lost power. The outlets were back to back in the wall connected to each other.

    Good Luck

  2. What happened was the circuit in that perticular room was damaged, in other words it shorted, What I would do is first flip the breaker to off for his room then go to his outlet and replace it. Just un s***w it and replace it with a new one (remember black wire goes on the copper side  and white goes on the aluminum side) just remember the order they were in on the old outlet. You may also want to check all the other outlets in the room to make sure they are ok. Warning if the wiring for the outlet you want to replace is damaged, DO NOT install a new outlet with the same wiring, make sure you hire an electrician so he can replace it for you. Good Luck.

  3. If you examine the recept that is first in line from the circuit breaker box, you will probably find the rest of the recepts down stream of this are the ones not working..In an effort to make wiring easier, the wires that "Piggy back" to the rest of the recepts in that circuit are plugged into the first recept. This is probably the cause of the problem. Remove the wires plugged into the bad recept, and hard wire them into the recept. If you don't know how to do this, hire someone to do this for you. Your safety is paramount. Good luck.

  4. some mobile homes or travel trailers whichever it may be ,have fuses, check them. if the plastic cover is missing it may not have a electric reseptacle installed behind the wall.

  5. There's probably something wrong with the bedroom circuit, probably an open circuit (the wire going around your bedroom has been interrupted by the burnt outlet, and now the electrons can't get through).  Ask an electrician.

  6. my guess is that the outlet is damaged more than just it surface. all the poking and proding can loosed the connections, especially if they are stab lock outlets.  get your self a meter or a 120 volt tester to make sure the circuit is dead, check all outlets, it wouldn't hurt to look in the panel first and kill the labeled bedroom circuit.  when sure it is dead, pull out the outlets and check the connections. so many times its a loose wire in the outlet or a loose wire in a wire nut.

good luck hope this will help
