i want to put an outlet in my garage ceiling for my garage door opener. can i jumper a wire from existing wall outlet to the new outlet in the ceiling? it's probably on a 10 amp breaker. black to black white to white and ground, right? i currently have an extension chord running across the ceiling down the wall to the outlet and would like to get rid of that. thank you. jk

  1. You can absolutely run a wire to the new location and install an outlet for your garage door opener.  Since you already are drawing from that circuit now there should be no problems with the load.

The gauge of the wire should be 12 gauge or larger just in case you should ever plug something else into that outlet.

Yes... black to black... white to white... and ground to ground.  Do not forget to ground the outlet itself.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!
