Is water boiled from an electric plastic kettle safe to drink?

The plastic kettle carries certification but would any of the plastic chemicals leak into the water in high temperatures?

  1. It should be. I believe it's the same mechanism they use with coffee makers.

    However, you are right. With all the news about carcinogens in plastics, it is better to stay away from heating water in plastic.

Most electric kettles have a heating element in them to heat the water.  You don't need to worry about plastic in your water unless the plastic is melting.  If the plastic is melting then you'd better take it back to Walmart.  It won't effect the taste of your water. Most soda pop, milk, juice, etc... come in plastic containers.
