Question:

Electric sander for leveling out plaster?

Would this work? I'm finding that manually, sanding down plaster is a choir & by the time it's dry it's very hard to get down layers, all it does is make it smooth. I'm looking to shave of plaster around a gap & make it level with the wall?

Would this work?

Thanks in advance. :)

  1. To sand down filler on the walls, yes.  To sand down the actual skim coat of plaster, no.

I'd try and locate a good plasterer who can skim the wall(s) without losing the definition around the edges of the skirting boards etc.

  2. Hmmm...check out the age of the plaster?...if its pre-1981?...it may contain some asbestos so wear a mask...

  3. I've used one before in remodeling when the plaster is dry. Just be sure to do a little at a time or you can wind up with a slightly concave surface before you realize it. By the way, this was a professional remodel and the homeowner and painters had no problem with it. Hope this helps.

  4. you sound like you would have been better off getting someone who knows what they are doing to do your plastering. you know it'd only cost you £6-7 per m2 plus materials to get your walls skimmed properly.

i wouldn't be using a power sander on your walls either, its very easy to take your little problem which isn't much for a professional to fix and make it into a much larger one.

  5. thats why you pay someone who can do it well in the first place

  6. Be prepared for fine dust, lots of fine dust. You'll be finding it for weeks.

  7. Use a sanding screen rather than sandpaper.

  8. dont see why not - we used an electric sander in our hallway to level out the plaster when we had to repair the walls and it looks fine.

  9. you will probably take off to much . its easier and safer to go slow then faster when sanding down plaster.
