Question:

Electric start and 70cc scooter problem?

Hi, I've fitted a polini 70cc sport kit and other bits and bobs to my Suzuki street magic. I don't have a kick start so use only the electric start. Since installing the new kit I can't get the bike started because the electric start doesn't have the power to turn the engine over... I think it may be due to the increased compression. Is this normal, any help would be fantastic

  1. When you fitted this sports kit, it must have taken a while.  During this time, your battery was in disuse hence not being charged.  After all this time, when you try to use your bike as usual, you should have charged it before using it.

If your battery is over two years old, please retire it and go for a new one of the same specs.  Your engine should fire.

  2. jump start it with a car, once its running it should continue to start on its own battery....

  3. i do not reccomend jumping it... a charger for these batteries are cheap as h**l and can be bought at wal-mart, among other stores.... if you are going to go with a dead batter as for why it won't start, get the charger and do it right.

after dismantling my bike and putting it back together my electric start worked like twice and then only the solenoid would click, i bought a charger, found out that wasn't the problem.... when i went to put on the battery leads so i coul djust 'plug' it in i noticed some corrision and that my connections weren't as tight as they could be...

i cleaned them up with a tooth brush and tightened 'em down.... worked fine after that has never given any problems since.

  4. Not sure what "bits and bobs" means - So you went from 50cc to 70cc?  Well. . .  you could try squirting oil in the cylinder (a LOT...) and turning it over with the plug out - may be just new-too-tight. . .

No kick-start?? (not my 1st choice...) centrifugal clutch & belt. . . bummer.

The jump-start answer may work - If it doesn't work right away, STOP! !  be careful not to burn up the starter!!!
