Plug above the sink doesn't work when the light switch is off. I want the plug to work even if the switch is off or on.

  1. Sounds dodgy to me.

I presume by 'plug' you mean a three pin power socket. and by 'light switch' you mean the switch that turns on the main light.

If that's right then I wouldn't trust the wiring in your house as you have a power point supplied (or not in this case but you think it should) from the lighting circuit!

  2. This is incorrect wiring;-{ outlets should not be on light circuit.

You don't mention what country;-{ standards are different.

But the switch must be wired before the outlet & light.

Identify breaker/fuse & turn off power the power.

Remove switch & outlet cover, identify the wires.

Wire to outlet should not go through the switch.

But the outlet may be wired between switch & light.

  3. U have to close the circuit  from the switch.  The switch has 2 wires.  Buy a wire cap and twist them together.  Make sure u turn power off first from breaker box or suffer the consequences.(shock)

  4. to start.. turn the light switch on and then go to the breaker box and find the breaker that turns of the power to the light and tun it off.

Then romove the cover of the switch above the sink and the  cover  of the plug. Mark colors and all wire locations. The wire from the light switch that goes to the wall receptical is probably on the secondary side if the switch if it only gets hot when the switch is on. While the power is still off. Move it to the opposite side of the switch so as to be on the hot side when you turn your breaker back on. leave all other wires in the same positions. Note: The color wire should be a black one to the hot side of your wall receptical.
