Question:

Electric vehicle!?

I was wondering if anyone out there knew of a small car that fits this description:

-50% or 100% electric

-Legally able to go on the highway/freeway

-has option of non-leather interior

-Is under $15,000

I know these criteria are probably unreasonable but it's what I really want for my first car! Anyway, if anyone knows, post it! Thank you!

  2. You will need to wait three years.  There will be an excellent selection of plug-in hybrids then.

  3. well now, the best bet would be for you if you are mechanically inclined, do a conversion yourself. I would also suggest researching whats all involved. I have just completed a conversion of a motorcycle. The expense wasn't bad but it was time consuming. The motorcycle is now a series hybrid electric and can also be recharged by a home based charger. Happy Motoring

  4. I doubt that you could find one that cheap unless it is used. I think that if want to be environmentally friendly just buy an efficient car  since the hybrids probably pollute a lot more in production since they have so many batteries and no one is really sure how often you have to replace the battery packs which would probably cost more to replace than the vehicle itself is worth. That is just my opinion so hate it if you want.

  5. Depending on range and speed needed, a used commutacar or citicar is a great option.  These are fully eletric vehicles produced in the mid 70's through the early 80's.  The drawbacks are that they have limited range and speed, and aren't the most attractive on the market certainly.  They are very simple however, and are not prohibitively hard to work on.  And one can be had for a few thousand dollars.

Of course, for the same money I bought a '94 civic cx that gets 40mpg highway and 35mpg city.  So if you want to get good economy, buy that car.  It's plenty powerful for most purposes, and has the range most people desire.  So there you go.  Two very realworld options.

And yes, I have both of these cars.  Yes they are both practically drivable on the street, though currently my EV isn't running.  Between the two, I'd take the civic anyday... but the EV is a nice change from the norm.

  6. Get a cheap hybrid, or a used hybrid.

  7. under $15,000? Good freaking luck. The conspiracy against batteries + the economy is fubaring that.

  8. 100% electric vehicles will not be on the market until next year. i saw an auto ad that claimed that the car company would be available in 2009. but it will cost a lot more than $15,000.

    THANK YOU KING BUSH!!!!!!!

    have-a-loving-day!
