Question:

Electric weed whacker won't spin?

i bought an electric weed whacker (it is NOT cordless) a couple of months ago, I've used it several times before, but today it quit spinning just 8 minutes after i turned it on. The string spool is fine, the extension I used is appropriate to the machine's capacity, I can still hear the motor but the string head won't spin. I unplugged it and the head spins fine if I move it, so it isn't stuck or anything. It just won't turn with the motor. I thought it might have overheated (weird, since it's not the motor that quit) and let it rest for some time, tried it again, and the head STILL won't turn. Any ideas?

  1. Return it to where you bought it.  Exchange it or get your money back, as the one you have seems to be defective.

  2. Take off the extension and make sure they are connected properly, or where they meet a part broke off.

  3. Either a gear within the down pipe is damaged or the s***w that tightens the line head is loose causing the head to free spin. What I would do is take it to a small engine/garden equipment repair facility and ask their opinion. They may know exactly what and where the problem is and take care of it rite away, hopefully for a nominal fee. The other alternative is to return it to where you purchased it. They may give you an exchange or refund. That sounds like a manufacturing problem, and should still be under warranty after only a couple months.

    Good Luck,  ;-)
