I have no power in one room in my home after a thunderstorm where the power gone out. The ciruit breaker is not tripped nor are the surge breakers on the wall outlets are either. The over head light doesn't work either. One outlet in the other room doesnt work now either.

What gives?

  1. Test and reset the GFCI outlets and make sure if the breaker isnt hanging up-shut it off and back on again. If this still doesnt fix it, you may have to call someone in.

  2. There is a good chance that a ground fault tripped. These are typically located in a bathroom, garage or outside. I have seen an outside ground fault receptacle shut off electricity to several rooms in a house.

  3. Sometimes the breaker can be tripped and not appear to be so,  Click each of the breakers off and then on again to see.

The other problem could be that the breaker itself was shorted out (Yes, it happens).  Try switching breakers out with one you know is working if you don't have a spare.

  4. Problem could be in one of the outlets feeding the room, especially if the outlets have the wire pushed into the holes in the outlet (Instead of wrapped around the lugs). If you can find someone with a circuit tracer they could locate it for you quickly. As the ckt. tracer provides a frequency on the wire that is picked up with a detection device and they can trace the wiring through the house...
