Question:

Electrical adapter advice on a 220v camera bought in India?

I bought a video camera while in New Delhi.

I had an adapter pack to use for my things like hair dryer while over there, but found that back in the US, my camera cannot run on the 220's here as the outlets are much larger than the 220 plug on the camera...

I have taken it to several so-called experts who have not been able to figure anything out. I am heart-sick that my pictures cannot be viewed.

Can anyone else offer definitive technical advice that I can do to access my pictures???

  1. If your camera power supply has something listed on it like, works from 100-240v or 120-220v or 120-240v (the low number is the important one) then it can work in the US, all you need is a plug adapter which costs approximately $5, something like this: http://www.laptoptravel.com/ProductList....

  2. Besides your trying to let this camera run in the US (indeed 120V-system), you want to view the pictures you made thus far. You must be able to take out the memory card (SD leading brand) and shove it in a slot of your printer. I seldom connect my appliances with a usb cable to my PC. The rest is simple: you can then view your .jpg's , .wmv's, .avi's, .mpg's ... with a programme for that purpose (i.e. Picasa or Flickr).

  3. If the camera is a well known brand and available where you are, you may be able to obtain a power pack locally that will fit. Replace the entire power unit.

  4. U.S. is 120 v, not 220 v. I hope you were not trying to plug it into a 220 volt outlet such as is used for stoves, and large ACs.

All cameras I have seen do NOT plug into the AC outlet. They run from batteries. And they have a battery charger that plugs into the wall.  If this is not true for your unit, let me know.

Most battery chargers run from 100-240 VAC 50/60Hz. Look in your documentation and see if it says that. Or look on the manufacturer's web site.

If it does say that (100-240 VAC 50/60Hz) or something close, all you need is a plug adaptor, and they are available all over, at drug stores, etc. This is an adaptor that lets you plug the charger into a 120 v socket.
