I was watching tv, and i heard a really loud popping sound from the outlet by the tv, then the tv turned off. So I shut the tv off, then I switched the cord to a different outlet beside it, and it doesn't work. The power light for the tv will blink green then go back to red, meaning off, but thats it, it won't turn on just blink. I just bought a 50" LG plasma tv a few weeks ago if that could be any help.

  1. It is very possible that you had a power sag then spike or that your outlet was not meant for the ampacity that you had loaded on it. For example if you plugged in a TV @ 10 AMPS and say a microwave (or any combination of things) at 10 AMPS you circuit breaker should trip, but if it is bad or worn out it can allow it and possibly burn wires in your outlet boxes.  then your outlet goes POP and fries.  If the outlet is not working it was most likely over on amps and blew up and put a power spike to your TV.  Also note that many extension cords are not for high amp loads you must get the right cord for what you are trying to do, not just the cheapest.  As for the TV it could very well be fried, but only a trained qualified person should ever take the back cover off; the inside of TV's have thousands of amps in them, due to coils, just half an amp can kill you.  if you cannot operate it from the console odds are the power supply was damaged.  Any other help feel free to IM me.

  2. did you keep the set un-plugged for at least 10 mins in between? Without touching the remote control... instead there in front of the tv manually press and hold down the menu button for about 10 seconds and then manually pressing the channels up button and see if the tv comes on..

  3. you tripped the breaker go to the breaker box and flip the  switch

  4. Sounds like the TVs power supply died....maybe because a surge or short in the outlet.

Plug something els into the outlet..like a radio or small appliance..if it doesn't work then check the breaker or fuse....if it's on..then it may have gone bad.

If the other item works..then you need a new TV.

  5. I hate to tell ya this, but it sounds like you got hit with a power surge.  I hope you have a warranty on the TV.  If it doesn't work plugged into a known good outlet, it's definitely going to need repaired.  Sorry.

The outlet may have fried as well, if you plug a lamp into it, does it work?  Check your breaker, hopefully it tripped, but if it isn't, and the outlet doesn't work, turn off the breaker and replace the outlet (a replacement costs about $2 at Lowes, and will take you 10 minutes to install).
