Question:

Electrical outlet protective cover?

I have a couch right behind an electrical outlet so I can't use that outlet. I've tried pushing the couch forward, but it still gets unplugged all the time. Is there some kind of cover I can buy so that I can plug things in and keep it protected from being unplugged?

  1. I only know of products to cover outlets, unused;not cover used outlets. This can be a recurring problem, especially behind couches. This could be your ticket. Do a search on patents. You have discovered a common need, possibly with no available commercial product.

    innovative

  2. There are outlet covers for child safety that will take care of this. You can get them at Babies R'Us stores or website. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp... This one I linked is only $2.29.

  3. probably the simplest and cheapest option is to make up a little spacer to place inbetween the couch and the wall...

  4. Lay a 2x4 on the floor behind the couch legs to keep it away from the wall. If the plug is falling out all of the time, the receptacle may need to be replaced. The couch should not be against the cord anyway, it is a fire hazard.

  5. I use an extension cord with a flat plug, the wire comes out of the side of the plug instead of the back.  Since the wire doesn't stick out, no problems with the furniture.

    Got mine at Walmart.
