Electrical problem with 98 sunfire

well... i figured out that a fuse is making all the interior lights and radio shut off, and when i change the fuse, it works for about 10 minutes and goes out again... im guess something is short curcuiting. how much will a job like this cost?

  1. See what is all on the circuit. Your cig. lighter is probably on it. Make sure there isn't anything stuck in the socket. If not, just unplug it. If the cig. lighter is not the culprit, keep tracking down the circuits one at a time till you find the short.  


  2. It all depends on how long it takes the mechanic to find the problem.

  3. if it is an intermittent short, it could be easy or hard to locate.  My guess would be isolate the point in circuit by disconnecting components until it no longer blows.  If it still blows, personally, I would not quote book time and hope for the best.  I've found problems within minutes and had others that took ASE Master Mechanic 3 weeks of off and on testing to locate, and anywhere in between.

    Sounds like an easier find than some with the problem you list.

    I would guess in the $85 to $225 range.  But likely somewhere in between.
