i have a canon ixus 70 camera and i want to get the pictures from it on to my computer. i connect the usb into my laptop from the camera. where do i go next?

your computer will treat the camera as a new hard drive, normally like E: drive, you just need to go there and copy the photos to your C: drive (your computer) on any directory you want to organize your photo.

But even better, you should use the program provided by Canon to do the transfer, it's easier in some senses.  Your Canon manual should teach you how to transfer photos too, recommend you read that manual.  (pg. 146 tp 154 of your manual tells how to connect your camera to Computer)
