Electrical wiring of Indesit hob PI 604 GB

Question

I am a qualified electrician and managed to break a plastic switch spindle of a new hob. I have fitted a new bank of switches and the hot plates plugged in and all works except for the warning light which illuminates when the power supply is on. Without the hand book, I am not sure how this light is designed to work and assume it operates when one of the plates is switched on. The neutral connections are linked between the switches and the short 'tail' from the neon presumably is the live feed?
Please can somebody put me out of my missery?
