Kid turned wrong stove element on low, yellow plastic chopping board was on burner, it melted through. I have been able to peel a great deal off when it cooled (thankfully no we didn't burn the house down) but would my best idea to be replace the element (circle getting smaller) or to peel off all plastic and try again, sounds stupid, but can I wet this stove element? like soak in water? (obviously drying for days before plugging in again) Please help as I know these elements are expensive. Thankyou World 'Sparkies" and handypeople!

  1. I agree with Rhoda, spend the $30 on a new one.  It'll be nearly impossible to remove all of the plastic from the old one.

($30+- at Lowes, E-bay will be even cheaper)

  2. I have to tell you it is safer to purchase a new element. The reason is people who die in fires, die because when plastic or PVC is burned it gives off a fume that is lethal! For the safety of you and your family that is the only way! You might want to try pealing it off, but soaking it with water will not work. I hope that helps! Thank goodness you are all OK!
