In my physics lab we experimented with to wire currents in the opposite directions. An AC current was used to cause the force. How was it that the wires did not appear to oscillate? What is meant by the phrase "effective current"?

  1. AC current = alternating current

What happens in AC current is the electrons are pulled back and forth through the wire.  DC current is where the electrons are always getting pushed through the wire.

Effective current basically means the amount of AC current with the same effect as DC current.
