Question:

Electricity generates heat, we dissipate that heat into the atmosphere, how does it not cause Global Warming?

One example would be a cell phone tower or a internet server room that needs to be kept cool by using a A/C unit to take the heat generated by the electronics away and exchanging it to the atmosphere. Now think of all that wire we have run all over the world a lot of it underground where it is cooler, then throw some roads over it to hold that heat in some more. I am pretty sure electricity is a major contribution to global warming. Wouldn't you think so?

  1. Yes it does, waste heat is a problem too.  However, right now it is not nearly as great a problem as the radiative forcing due to greenhouse gases.  However, it probably is worth addressing in the long term.

  2. The Earth loses vast quantities of heat to the vacuum of space every second.  Two things prevent us from becoming a floating ice ball:  The sun and our atmosphere.  The sun replaces the heat we lose, and the atmosphere holds the heat in like an insulator.  The theory of man-made global warming suggests man has increased the heat-trapping quality of the atmosphere.  Most skeptics believe variations in the Sun have caused the warming, making it a natural occurrence we can't change.  Either way, the heat generated by our power usage is such a small fraction of Earth's energy budget it makes absolutely no difference to the balance.

  3. Electricity does cause global warming....though a scale so small that the effect isn't even close to measurable.

  4. the heat is temporary, you can't cure global warming buy throwing ice cubes outside!

  5. Yes it does, but when you calculate the amount of energy humans generate and compare that to the amount of energy comming from the sun, you'll find out humans cause about 1 millionth of the energy which enters the Earth.  This is no where near enough to have a measurable effect on the climate.

You sound like you are so determined to believe that humans are causing global warming that you are creating your own theory.  There are a lot of climatologists who are also determined to believe that humans are causing climate change and they have slightly more complicated (but no more correct theories) about the effects of atmospheric carbondioxide.

  6. I cant believe this is an actual question...

  7. Honestly, the superstitions developing around envrionmentalism is either laughable or frightening.

  8. the type of heat you mention is not contributing to global warming as it isnt a green house gas

its not the heat that causes global warming but certain types of gases or emmisions

"global warming" Is just an phrase used to describe the effect green house gases have on the  o-zone layer

which when damaged enough to allow potentially harmfull rays to reach us will cause "global warming"
