Well I tucked in my little brother in his bed then went to plug in his lamp and as I plugged it in it made zoom sound and turned off all the lights in the room and the cable for the lamp was really hot. What could of happened? Is there a way I can fix it?

Because the power doesn't work in the room and it works all over the house.

  1. sounds like it tripped a circuit breaker.. if you know where the main panel is you should see a breaker that needs to be reset.. turn it all the way off and then back on... the problem probably is with the lamp.. since the power was working before you plugged it tn.. don't plug it in again..get another lamp or repair the one with the problem.

  2. Ohhh it was a flipped breaker probablt caused by a power overload

  3. What most likely happened is that the lamp shorted out and blew the fuse.

The two wires coming from the socket somehow touched directly and a lot of electricity went through them at once making the wire hot.

The fuse (or breaker) prevented any serious accidents and will need to be reset. Check the basement of the house or a utility closet for the breaker panel and switch the odd one back after unplugging the broken light.

  4. its prabablY  fried   unlesS you took OUT IN TIME

  5. Unplug the lamp, trash it or replace the cord. Now go reset the breaker! Be sure to turn the breaker all the way off then back on! It will be majic! Lights restored!

  6. I think it was a shortage. or somthing. Try getting to your power box and restarting the electricity.

  7. throw away the lamp and check the circuit breaker

  8. you need to call an electrician you blew one h**l of fuse!! ya dont try to fix it yourself lol you might end up dead

  9. you can buy a light tester, they are anywhere from 10 to 25 dollars.. you plug it in the light switch that is bad, and the instrument will tell you what is wrong with it..

    the readings are

    1 open ground

    2 open hot

    3 hot/ground reverse

    4 correct

once you find the problem, it will be easy to correct...

The very best advice is to buy a HOME DEPOT book.. it will give you easy step by step instructions

you can easily do it yourself

I would go outside and disconnect that breaker, esp. if your lamp is hot

also the book will explain how to rewire the switch, which  could be the problem..

be sure when you deal with any wires, the breakers are OFF or you could be severely electrocuted.. If you follow that rule, you will be OK..

If it is the lamp, thats another story, then trash the lamp and flip your outside breakers

and DONT TURN THAT LAMP ON AGAIN !!

  10. sounds like the breaker flipped go to your circut breaker box and make sure the one for your little bros room is on, or you could of blown a fuse if the breaker is in the right postion dont mess with it and a call a proffesional

  11. The lamp was damaged somewhere....the lamps wires shorted causing an extreme pull of current (making the wire hot) and caused the circuit breaker (short circuit/overload protector) to trip to an "off" position. To be safe I would leave it like it is, and contact your parents. Possibly get an electrician to check the outlet...as it might need replacement after this incident.

  12. Gotta call an electrician for that one.

  13. Lamp probably had a direct short to ground causing the circuit breaker to trip for that room.  Don't plug in the lamp again!  Reset the circuit breaker and all will be good.

  14. call to electricians
