Question:

Electricity meter cost/responsibility?

I am about to move into a new flat (work just completed on it) when I got a phone call saying that I needed to install a electricity meter. I was recommended to use E-ON although they seem to target the builder and not the tenant. Should I be responsible for installing this and if so how do I do it and how much does it cost?

  1. I am not sure what the codes are where you are but here the home owner is responsible for installing everything to the mast (the place where the electrical wires attach to your house from the pole) This does not include the actual meter. The meter box? Yes, but the actual meter is something that your electric company should do.

  2. I've never heard of a home owner or renter being responsable for the electric meter.  This is typcially done by the utility company

  3. in most states, the building owner is responsible
