we live on a farm and my dad had asked me a question because i am learning about electricity and current (i am in grade 9) and he had asked me a question asking me, why would voltage leak during the winter but then not in summer. the reason we had noticed this is when we had observed that when a cow was to touch the water troff it gets shocked, what causes this??

  1. Static builds up easier when the air is dry.  In winter, the air is drier than summer.  For that reason, static electricity discharge (shocks) are more common in winter.

  2. The cow is more likely to receive a shock in the winter than in the summer is because the air is less humid.  The drier air allows for the small charge build up on the cow to leap to the metal troff.
