Electricity question...?

This is on those electric circuits.

What are the main things I should know about:

Parallel Circuits

Series Circuits?

What I mean is, how do resistance, voltage, and current work in each of them?

If you can give me any examples, I would be very happy.

Also, some word questions that I need some help on:

#1) A refrigerator compressor draws 6.25A from a 110 V source and operates for an average of 20 minutes out of each hour. Calculate the kilowatt hours of electrical energy used in 5 days.

THANKS!

  1. Parallel circuits:  Voltage is constant across all elements connected in parallel.  Current divides across each element.  Resistance is calculated as follows Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3...

    Series circuits:  Current is constant through all elements.  Voltage is divided across all elements.  Resistance is additive;  Rt = R1 + R2 + R3 ...

    Hours ran per day = 24 * (20/60) = 8 hours

    Power = VI = 120 * 6.25 = 750 Watts

    750 Watts * 8 Hours per day * 5 days = 30,000 Watt-Hours=

    30 KWh
