Electromagnet Material Question?

As of now, I can't find an iron rod to buy that's of the right qualifications to fit my use. I was wondering which material is next on the list for conductivity. I'm basically asking which other materials will make a good magnet?

conductivity has nothing to do with a magnet.

What are your qualifications?

I'm pretty sure it isn't all that important, but I've made them using a nail or s***w before.
