A certain 60.0 Hz AC power line radiates an electromagnetic wave having a maximum electric field strength of 13.0 kV/m. What is the wavelength of this very low frequency electromagnetic field strength in the electromagnetic wave? What is its maximum magnetic field strength?

  1. The wavelength is:

    λ = c / f = (3.00 x 10^8 m/s) / (60.0 Hz) = 5.00 x 10^6 m

    The maximum magnetic field strength is:

    B = E / c = (13,000 V/m) / (3.00 x 10^8 m/s) = 4.33 x 10^-5 T
