Electron configuration question: Is the correct electron configuration for Mn^+7 ...... [Ar] 3p^6...?

  1. Mn^7+ has lost 7 electrons and therefore only has 18 electrons (neutral Mn has atomic number of 25, therefore has 25 protons and 25 electrons). So its electon configuration is the same as AR.

    So its configuration can be shown as:

    When you are filling orbitals use this chart, follow the arrows for which orbital sto fill first.

    So the actual electron configuration of neutral Mn, with its 25 electrons is 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^64s^23d^5

    or [Ar)4s^23d^5
