Electronic Voice Phenomena? Your experience(s) with it?

Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) is the term traditionally used to describe unexpected sounds or voices sometimes found on recording media. EVP initially involved audio tape recorders, but now, virtually any recording medium can be a vehicle for this phenomena. I am interested in your personal experience(s) with EVP. Thank you.

  1. never tried it

  2. I believe it has to do with a race of aliens called demons that want to control your mind and convince you to kill yourself muahahahah...seriously

  3. I've found its very easy to create all sorts of EVPs, though there is no reason to believe that these EVPs are of spirit origin. I just used my handheld Olympus digital recorder (CD quality recording!) and some sound editing software, which seems to be the typical practice from what I've read, and I had no problem recording fuzzy ambient sounds that could be interpreted as words or phrases with a little power of suggestion (i.e., pareidolia). Personally, I find the idea of EVPs as evidence of spirit activity to be absolutely absurd.

  4. After my uncle died 4 years ago, I would write him medium sized letters. In my sleep he would reply to them. I never told anyone. I thought it was just a dream. Then about 5 months ago on Oprah they did a special on EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) & talking with the dead. I was like "OMG! I'm not crazy!" and I googled it and listened to people's EVPs. So I set up a recorder infront of my dad's um. I replayed the tape and forwards it read, "I tried to get up." Backwards it reads, "I love you, pumpkin." AND IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE HIM! Then about 2 months ago I made a darkroom downstairs in a room in our basement. I had to move my Grandpa's fishing gear. Well, the next day I go down there the fishing stuff had been moved to the original spot. My mom never goes into that room. She only goes downstairs to do the laundry. I set up my recorder and sure enough my grandpa left a message calling out my mom's name over and over again

  5. My personal experience with EVPs is that there is no reason to think they are spiritual voices or anything paranormal for that matter.

I take issue not just with the subjective interpretation (and sometimes manipulation) of these auditory artifacts, I also have a difficult time believing that a spirit (if they exist) would have the ability to talk without a voice box.  There are numerous other problems with EVPs as well, but I'll leave it at that.

  6. I havent got anything worth saving, unlike others I wont save any EVPs unless you can clearly make out what its saying.

  7. I was a singer/songwriter in my younger days (lost my voice), but I was listening to old tapes  the day before yesterday (d**n I was good).... and I came across an old tape in which one side was blank but recorded. In ither words i left the recorder running but was not present. In the background you can hear someone looking for something  which is real, but then suddenly you can hear my fathers voice or someone say something extremely unintelligiable not once but three times. Then there is whistling in the far far background ( a sound that always creeps me out big time) and then of all things you can hear what sounds like chanting. None of these sounds were in my house. It was very creepy. I am thinking of leaving a tape to run the night here to see what we get, but my kids are so creeped out by this stuff that I will never get them to leave my side if I do that and get something.

  8. Sometimes, close to sleep if I have left the PC speakers on loud (usually after blasting out music and forgetting to turn them off) I swear I get just minor auditory "blips" like human voices but I can't hear any words or make any sense of anything.  No messages, nada. If I open my eyes and sit up they disappear completely.

I asked my (psych nurse partner, aren't I lucky!) and she said it's quite normal especially near sleep for the brain to fill in blanks and make stuff up just using background noises.

Not much of an experience really is it?

Still there certainly are people who picked up bits of old radio signal which have been floating around for decades on their CBs, which is quite scientific and normal.

  10. Could be ghosts, could be sounds we cant hear but electronic devices can. maybe it was too far for you to hear at the time but the voice recorder picked it up.

  11. I am a believer of the paranormal~ however this phenomena is just a little too unlikely for me. have you ever heard any of these voices? They are hardly recognizable as speech even when you are told what to listen for. I think the answer to this lies within the mundane, such as radio waves or phone signals etc...=
