Question:

Electronic or percussion drums?

I want to start playing drums but I don't know what kind of set to get. If i got electronic then I can play with headphones. Percussion sounds better and looks and feels better, but since I'll be just starting it will be loud and bad lol. To be completely honest I've been playing rock band and thats what got my interest in drums. I got sick of being that guy that can only play run to the Tom Sawyer or Won't Get Fooled Again on expert in a game but not able to do it on a REAL drum set. I know the real thing is a lot more difficult.

  1. It depends what you want to do.  If you want to play rock, you have to have the real thing.  But if you are going to do some 80's new wave stuff (which I think is coming back) the electric will be ok.

You should also ask yourself how serious of a set you want to get.  If you're a beginner, think about your budget as well as noise problems (are you ready to annoy your neigbors with the sound).  With electrics, you can practice into the wee hours of the night, and when you get good buy the accoustic set (which yes, sounds so much better).

  2. No electric drums will ever feel or sound as nice as a decent acoustic kit! I work in a drum shop and have tried and owned all the highest spec electric kits from one time to another, but none have even come close. I would always advice anyone looking to start to go acoustic, and if they're worried about noise, to purchase some drum dampners. They only cost £35 a set, and reduce noise alot.
