I really would like some specific comparing or contrasting on how getting either of these 2 degrees could potentially affect my career as an Electronics Engineer (in the US). The most easily acquired degree for me would be a BS in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Electronics (in the US). But I am sctrictly interested in smaller Electronics designs and don't have a lot of interest in bigger Electrical designs (though it would be useful in every day life). First, does it really make a difference which major I get? Could I get all of the same jobs with a BS in Electrical Engineering as I could with a BS in Electronics Engineering? I know a lot of it has to do with job experience too. So, I already have 3 years as a 94E in the army (Radio and Comsec Repair) with 6 months of Electronics schooling (3 months Basic Electronics and 3 months specific to equipment I would be working on). I would be interested in any Electronics jobs along the lines of- Repair, Maintenance, or especially, Testing and Designing, wherever the money and fun is.
Because designing would probably be the hardest field to get into, that's where I specifically want to know would getting a BS in Electrical Engineering limit my career in Electronics design in any way??
I'm asking this purely for the purpose of choosing my university and degree.. I think I'd face a lot of inconvenience trying to find a university that offers a BS in Electronics, whereas there is a university that offers a BS in Electrical (with focus in Electronics) right in my hometown. Do I need to make the sacrifice- spend more money, move away from the family and friends etc.- to get a BS in Electronics Engineering?? Or would a BS in Electrical Engineering (focus in Electronics) practically be the same??
