Question:

Electronics in hot weather?

I have the A/C off in my apartment and it is supposed to be like 87 degrees tomorrow. Will all my electronics (42'' LCD, PS3, PS2, XBox, etc) be ok if my apt gets to like 85 degrees? None of the electronics are turned on so I'm not sure if the heat will still affect them. I'm not actually in my apt now so I can't turn on the A/C, will they be ok for a day in the heat???

  1. That wont be a problem.

The heat damage is above 120 degrees and is internally generated.  Leaving lots of room for venting and even a small AC fan if your room gets upwards of 95 degrees works fine.

I'm in sunny California and every day is above 90 these days. But I dont have a back on my equipment rack and I have a small clamp-fan over the PVR's to keep them well vented (because they run 24/7).  The equipment has been stable for over 4 years with no problems.

  2. You shouldnt have any problems--some Satellite recievers and cable boxes with DVR's have hard drives that may run all the time and make the units pretty warm on hot days--but it usually takes the combination of running in a hot room with direct sunlight on most electronics to damage them
