Elementary School Punishments!?

My fourth grade sister and my 5th grade brother go to my old school. I hardly remember the rules but this is what happens everyday.

-3rd grade and older go to lunch at 11:20

-2nd grade and under go to lunch at 12:00

-No 20 minute morning recess if 3rd grade or older

-Bathroom limit 3 minutes twice a day

-Outdoor recess if over 15 degrees

-Lunch is 15 minutes

-Outdoor recess is 10 minutes

-School is from 8:20-2:20

-No hanging inside school if you have a band lesson at 3:00 or anytime after

-They have to put the chairs on the desk

-And they only have healthy snacks or no snacks

-Snack is at 10 when the older kids eat in an hour and 20 minutes

Who thinks these rules are ridiculous!

Snack?

Lunch earlier for older kids?

SHORT SHORT SHORT time for outdoors

(yes my sister typed the list)

And they refuse to turn on the heat medium or the air conditioning on because it will cost a fortune when the school is the smallest in the state!

What do you think?

  1. that was kinda the same with my school and we weren't allowed to wear sandals or other opened toed shoes cause the child and parents were complaining about cuts and having to get stitches I SAY GO ON STRIKE OR JUST TALK TO THE PRINCPAL OR COUNSELOR OR EVEN THE SECERTARY!!!!

  2. I think they should get more recess time.

Other than that.. the rules are not that bad. They feed the little ones a snack at 10 to hold them over until lunch time.

oh and the bathroom thing too.. i think a child should be allowed to go to the bathroom as much as they want if they have to go.

  3. I wouldn't call a schedule rules.  I disagree with the limit on number of bathroom visits, though I expect that it is flexible if someone has a stomachache.  I also think band lessons should be within fifteen minutes after school ends, forty minutes is an awkward time, because they can't really go home and come back but the school doesn't want them hanging around all that time.

I'm pretty sure your name isn't trademarked.

  4. I think this all unfair. The children need some freedom.

  5. it seems a little strict,,is it a private school or something?

  6. That doesn't sound that bad. The only thing I don't agree with is the bathroom. My daughter is in kindergarten and her school day is from 8:50 to 2:50. She eats lunch at 11:30. She has snack time around 10:00. Their lunch is a half hour and they go outside for 20 minutes. She can only bring her lunch and they eat in the classroom.

And you remark about the air conditioning. You should be happy the school HAS it. I am a teacher, my husband is a teacher, and my daughter is in school. None of the schools have AC.

  7. They sound pretty typical to me.  I am surprised that they are even getting snacks after Kindergarten...what is wrong with a healthy snack?  Most kids get plenty of junk food, so I see healthy snacks as a good thing.  A lot of schools are forced to keep their temps a little cooler in the winter and warmer in hot weather due to energy costs...that money comes from taxpayers and your average taxpayer would rather not pay any more in taxes.  Due to academic standards and standardized tests, recess has gone out the window at most schools...out of everything on your list, the short recess is the one thing I see a problem with, but that is just the way it is these days!

  8. I think this is not right. Its TOTALLY the opposite here in the Philippines, I love it here.

  9. the things i dont agree with is the lunch time im in 7th grade and our lunch is 45 minutes. The whole bathroom thing is RIDICULOUS. a child should be able to go to the bathroom as much as needed. And why would they need a snack so shortly before lunch? And the whole heat thing? i hope someone sues the school because their child got a heat stroke in the hotter months.

  10. It does seem a bit strict. Those rules are usually for upper grades like 4th-8th if it is a private school.

  11. this is a little harsh, 15 minute lunch? sheesh
