Elena Baltacha hits flawless victory over Barbora Zahlavova Strycov in 1st round – Texas Open 2011
Playing the first match together in their professional career was Elena Baltacha and Barbora Zahlavova Strycov on the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas. Both the players had battled it out for 79 minutes but the one standing in the end
was British Baltacha with a straight set victory of 6-2, 6-1 at the Texas Open 2011.
Baltacha won 6/8 points in her first serve; making it 75% win and 69% win in the second serve which resulted in a 71% win of total service points in opposition to a poor return by Strycov, who was only able to achieve 7 out of 24 return points in the opening
set.
Strycov had a better serve than the return serve and was able to win 50% of her total service games because the Briton was able to recoil most of her opponents shots, she had a good return that enabled her to achieve 50% of her total return points.
Despite her age the 28 year-old had a strong defence and did not setup a single break point circumstance for her opponent to break her, instead, she broke her challenger’s serve twice.
Baltacha was able to win the first set by achieving 10 more points than Strycov’s
During the second set Strycov had managed to get 70% of her total first serves on target but was unable to secure an average win in both the first and second serve points. Hence, achieving only 9 out of 27 points, making it a 33% win of her total service
points. Mean while, Baltacha was a hail of rebounding shots aimed at her opponent and bagged a exceptional 67% win in the total return points.
With a strong forehand Baltacha was able to clench 12 out of 21 points, making it a 57% win of her total service points against the Czech (Strycov), who was unable to respond to her adversary’s serve and attained 9 out of 21 points which, put together made
a 43% win of her total return points.
By saving 50% of her break points and converting four out of five break points, she was able to win a grand 63% of her total set points and hence, had almost twice as many points as her Czech opponent’s.
When all was said and done, Baltacha was a stronger player and in spite of her age her agility and skill won her the match by securing 63 out of 104 points against the 25 year-old Czech, who had 22 fewer points in the total match score.
