Elena Baltacha seeks inspiration from her Olympics medallist father – Tennis News
World number 102, Elena Baltacha, is gearing up for the upcoming London Olympics, contested at her hometown in Wimbledon. She seeks inspiration from her father Sergei, who was the professional footballer and won a bronze medal
in the London Games more than three decades ago.
It might seem a bit old fashioned to get inspired from something that was accomplished even before her birth but family milestones are never forgotten and can prove to be a ladder towards the success in all walks of life. Baltacha
is aiming to climb that ladder as well and surprise everyone with her stunning performance at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in the upcoming event that is conducted on four-yearly basis.
She is already 28-year-old and it will be her last chance to prove her worth. She may not be the strongest contender for the medal at the Games but underdogs can put up marvellous show if they are pumped up to perform especially
in today’s competitive world where players like Lukas Rosol can dismantle the confidence of legendary icons like Rafael Nadal.
The Ukrainian-born British tennis star commented about her inspiration for gold medal and stated “He said it was probably the most amazing experience of his life.” She was pointing out to her father who told her mesmerizing story
of success to her just before she left for the practice session last week.
She further added, “He has shown me loads of pictures. He said it was just unbelievable to be part of something that big.” The right-handed Briton is pumped up to perform her level best at the Games and utilize both opportunities
to earn a medal for her country.
She is the fourth ranked Briton in the world and will team up with the likes of the Anne Keothavong who is ranked number two in the Great Britain. Commenting further about her father’s speech, she added, “He said just try and experience
everything you can while you are in it and it will be something that you will never forget.”
It will be interesting to see how far the willpower of Baltacha lasts before she decides to bow down at the London Olympics.
