Elena Dementieva injured and out of Wimbledon

Elena Dementieva has pulled out of Wimbledon due to a calf injury.

The world No. 5 was earlier this month forced to withdraw from her French Open semi-final against Francesca Schiavone as a result of a calf injury and has now announced on her website that she has not recovered from the injury in time to play at Wimbledon this year.

The withdrawal from Wimbledon follows Dementieva’s announcement immediately after making her exit from Roland Garros that she wouldn’t be making the trip to Eastbourne this year as a result of the injury.

The 28-year-old held match point against eventual Wimbledon champion Serena Williams in her semi-final match at the All England Club last year, but now won’t be back to improve on that result in 2010.

Dementieva’s website provides no indication of when she’ll be returning to the court.
