Elena Hight prevails in women’s halfpipe Final at 5Star Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix
America’s Elena Hight walked away with top honours from women’s halfpipe Final at 5Star Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix that went down at Mammoth Mountain in California, America, on Saturday, March 3.
The Final saw an all-American podium sweep with Kaitlyn Farrington finished in runner-up place while Ellery Hollingsworth rounded out the third place.
With some of the best riders from around the globe converging to the primary event site to compete for top honours, the day promised to be full of exciting action as the riders were expected to push themselves hard for the coveted win. With the Ticket to
Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour nearing its season finale, there were hardly any opportunities left for the riders to improve their standings on the overall season rankings. Therefore, a successful result at the 5Star event was crucial due to the coveted TTR
rating points on offer.
With ideal conditions prevailing at the primary event site, the stage for women’s halfpipe Final was set. Eight women who had exhibited a promising form in the qualifiers were going to take each other on to get their hands on the coveted win and prize.
The 22-year-old Hight dominated the Final from the word go, putting down a solid first run to grab the lead. While her Run 1 score help up, she still stepped up in her final run, which featured a front-side 540, back-side 900, front-side 720, Cab 720 and
a back-side rodeo.
The phenomenal victory lap improved her score even further to earn her an even more convincing victory.
“It's been a long day and I was happy to qualify first. And, I'm definitely stoked on the win. It was a really fun day,” said Hight after the Final. “I am super stoked on today. It was really beautiful and I got to come out and do qualifiers early this morning.
I qualified first which I am really happy about and enjoy this California sunshine with my friends. It really doesn't get any better than this.”
The riders will now head to Stratton Mountain Vermont for the final event of the TTR World Snowboard Tour, 6Star Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships, which are scheduled to get underway from March 7 – 10.
