Elena Vesnina moves past Alla Kudryavtseva into the second round – Kremlin Cup 2011
Elena Vesnina ousted Alla Kudryavtseva in the opening round of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The two compatriots took to indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia. It took just forty nine minutes for the elder Russian
Vesnina to take down the younger fellow citizen Kudryavtseva in straight sets of 6-0, 6-1 on Wednesday the 19th of October 2011.
The two were well aware of each other’s skills and techniques as they had met twice prior to this event. The last time the two had met was on hard courts at the final of Tashkent Open which is held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Emerging
victorious in straight sets of 6-4, 6-4 was Kudryavtseva and she managed to equalize the head-to-head score to 1-1.
Opening the first round of the match was initiated by Kudryavtseva, who had just won the service toss and she got off to an appalling start as she was unable to hold her serve. On the contrary, Vesnina not only capitalized on a
breakpoint but also held her serve to open the scoreboard at 2-0. She then repeated the feat and by the end of the fourth game she had further increased her lead to 4-0.
In the fifth game Kudryavtseva double faulted on her second serve and she endorsed an extremely crucial break to her opponent. At the end of the fifth game the scoreboard had rotated to 5-0 and no Vesnina was only a game away from
victory. The serve switched, as Vesnina served for the opening game, she smashed a backhand shot down the line to secure a bagel victory of the opening set.
The second round of the match was initiated at Kudryavtseva again and this time she got a hold on her service game to commence the scoreboard at 1-0. Following in her footsteps was Vesnina and she too placed herself beside her
adversary at 1-1 on the scoreboard. However, in the third game Kudryavtseva’s forehand went wayward and she endorsed an early break to her adversary, who then took the lead b y holding her serve. By the end of the fourth game the score had shifted to 3-1 with
Vesnina leading the set.
In the fifth game Kudryavtseva came under pressure and double faulted endorsing the second breakpoint to Vesnina, who once more bagged service game to secure her lead at 5-1. At this point in the match, Vesnina was now only a game
away from victory and as the younger Russian erred, she ended up gifting the match to Vesnina.
Vesnina was able to clog the second round of the match with a bread stick victory and also managed to secure a berth in the second round of the event where she will be facing compatriot Ekaterina Ivanova.
