Question:

Elephant Toothpaste Experiment...?

My friend did the Elephant Toothpaste Experiment as a group project in her science class. She and her classmate followed the experiment step-by-step, and repeated it 5 times. However, each time they did the experiment, apparently, not enough soap bubbles form, i.e. it didn't flow out of the cylinder, and not enough of the soap bubbles was produced as was expected (it did not 'erupt' out of the cylinder as it should have. So... what could have been done wrong? Why didn't the soap bubbles erupt out of the cylinder like it should have? Barely any bubbles formed, so what went wrong? (Though they followed the eperiment step-by-step, word for word, 5 times...)

  1. More experiment details required.

  2. You likely bought your hydrogen peroxide from the grocery store.  It was only at 3% concentration.  You need concentrated peroxide to do this experiment.  However, because concentrated peroxide is used to make improvised explosives, it is getting harder and harder to find it.  If you used true 30% peroxide, then perhaps it was old peroxide that had been around awhile and had degraded.
