Question:

Elevated heartrate during fasting?

I'm about 14 hours into a water fast (9 of them were spent sleeping) and I noticed my heartrate is elevated. I have a normal resting rate of 65-75, but now it's about 100. Other than that, the detox symptoms are familiar (weakness, coated tongue, etc.).

It's not painful, but it makes me wonder. Is this something I should be worried about or it is a normal part of fasting in the initial stages?

  1. While it is ok to have a slight change in heart rate while doing a fast, I really don't think it's ok that it's up that much! I think you should give thought at stopping this fast. Your body could be going into chock, eventhough it had only been 14 hours. Take care :)

  2. If you fast it should be supervised. It is not recommended for everyone, a water fast especially. The body needs protein for detoxification, so i would recommend that you take some Chlorella and Spirulina about two heaping teaspoons three times a day. Both are a high protein content, and are nutrient dense. You should also take l-glycine, it is good for the liver and detoxification, about 1 teaspoon a day, your liver will love you for it. Take some unsweetened vitamin crystals, about 1/2 teaspoon three times a day. This is also good for detoxification. Eat organic raw fruits and vegetables or fruit and vegetable juices. For your colon take some Triphala, psyllium, and bentonite clay. You can take Triphala everyday and your colon wont become addicted to it like other herbs, and it is also nourishing to the colon walls. Herbs like burdock, yellow dock, dandelion, licourice and red clover are good for detoxification. After doing this, then gradually driffed away from the fruits and vegetables and then simply drink the fruit and vegetable juices, then you go to the next phase and try water for a few days. If you start notices that you feel bad, then don't do it at all. Water fasting is not for everyone.

If I were you I would go to a naturopath for advice. I have done the water fast for three days max. I did the master cleanse, it is not the best, but it is okay. It is not recommended for long term. I am currently fasting at the moment. When you fast you lose muscle, and that is not good, so you need a good protein that is not of animal origin and the chlorella(high iron content) and spirulina(many, many benefits) are good for this.

Both are top notch green foods. Put some nutrition in your body while fasting, just nothing heavy. Then you can fast longer and safer.
