Elgar open to bat down the order – Cricket News Update
South African batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
"I don't think it will be a problem to adjust to the middle order, it's just a bit of a mind-set change," he said. "I see myself as a versatile, flexible player and I can bat in the top order or middle order, whatever the case may be. It's one of my better assets."
The 25-year-old, who made his ODI debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 earlier in August this year,  was picked ahead a host of other promising candidates, with Proteas national selector labelling him a like for like replacement for Duminy.
Duminy was a part of the opening Test at Gabba but ruptured his Achilles tendon during practice and was consequently ruled out of competitive action for six months. His place went to Elgar, a top order batsman who further offers the team a part-time spin option.
The player led the South African Under-19 side in the 2006 World Cup before catching the selectors' eye in his debut first-class season where he scored 881 runs at an impressive 55.06. Following some lean seasons, he picked his form in the last two years, and currently has over 5000 runs to his name.
He further put up his case by performing well for the South African A side over the past couple of years, and recently scored a sublime 177 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427 expected to be preferred after travelling with the initial squad.
Nonetheless, Elgar’s reputation of being a sound longer version batsman may tempt the management to give him the nod. The player too is hoping to prove his mettle in the game’s ultimate format.
"I love first-class cricket because that's the finest, purest form of the game," he said. "I also love my one-day cricket because it adds a different dimension to the game, but if you had to put the two on the table and say chose one, I would have to say the longer format."
