The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/U-17-Youth-team-c40787 manager expressed his delight on his side’s impressive performance in the German Under-19 championship.
Die Knappen youth side emerged as the new German Under-19 champions on Sunday after they downed Bayern Munich in the final. The team won the game with a 2-1 score-line to lift their third championship and the first after the year
2006.
Bayern Munich dominated the game in the first period as they had a host of chances but could not convert any one of them to go ahead. The Bavarians took the lead in the 58th minute through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-c4710 Schopf and looked
on their way to win the game as they were clearly on top.
However, the Gelsenkirchen based side made a stunning comeback and scored two goals in the space of five minutes to take the lead. Rene Klingenburg and Philipp Hofmann scored the goals for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues and led the team to victory.
Coach Norbert Elgert was ecstatic with the win and insisted that it is a huge achievement for his team to win the league against one of the best sides in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904. He hailed the players for making a sensational comeback after going
one goal down in the second-half.
“I said we had to get the crowd going, be much more pro-active and play to our strengths and main attributes. I think that was evident after the interval. The lads had better body language, put more pressure on the ball and won
more tackles. And even when they went 1-0 down they picked themselves up again and came back,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the manager is happy that two of the players from the youth team have joined the first team squad after signing new contracts. He admitted that it is the hard work that has certainly paid off and he wished the
players all the luck for the future.
“A professional contract is nice, but it's not a free pass. I'm happy to say it again: this title is a title for the whole squad. But of these lads any number of them will make the breakthrough,” Elgert concluded.
It was Schalke’s first championship win since 2006 when Benedikt Howedes led the team to victory.
