Elia Viviani bagged the overall win at the Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria 2012
Italian cyclist Elia Viviani continued his splendid 2012 form to claim the second stage at the Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria 2012.
He also won the opening stage of the race and had a lead of 4 seconds over Daniele Colli and 6 seconds over Elia Favilli. The cyclist did well to prevent both the opponents from winning the 191.6 kilometre stage 2.
Viviani started his 2012 campaign at the Tour de San Luis and won the sixth stage of the race including the overall victory at the Gran Premio della Costa Etruschi.
The 23-year-old bagged his fifth win of the season to complete his tremendous run good form. His overall win at the race was hugely cheered by the crowd as the cyclist stood on the top podium position.
Viviani explained that his major goal was to win the overall classifications and the stage win was never a part of his plan. He cited, "The goal of the day was to be among the first to the finish to bring home first overall".
"The second stage victory was the icing on the cake, thanks to the splendid work of my teammates. This double success makes me happy, makes me even more pleased with the increased level of my conditioning", Viviani concluded.
Daniele Colli of Team Type 1- Sanofi finished second while Maximilian Richeze, Roberto Cesaro and Gianluca Maggiore achieved the next three spots during the 191.6 kilometre chase to Reggio Calabria.
Enrico Rossi won the first and the second sprint of the race whereas Paolo Bailetti claimed the Mountain category of the event.
Elia Viviani finished the race with an overall lead of eight seconds over Daniele Colli who secured the second spot.
Elia Favilli, Maximilian Richeze and Roberto Cesaro occupied the third, fourth and fifth overall positions at the race.
Aristide Ratti of Team Idea won the Sprint classification while Paolo Bailetti of Team Utensilnord Named claimed the Mountains classifications.
Elia Viviani, Elia Favilli and Georg Preidler were the top three young riders of the day. Team Type 1-Sanofi, Team Utensilnord Named and Team Androni Giocattoli were the top three teams during the final general classifications.
