Elia Viviani finished the Tour of Beijing with back to back spectacular performances
Italian cyclist Elia Viviani accomplished a brilliant victory for is team at the stage 4 of Tour of Beijing 2011. He finished the race with a total time of 4:09:08 ahead of Peter Sagan and Juan Jose Haedo who achieved second and third positions, respectively.
The tremendous season ended with the 9th victory for the young Italian.
Viviani joined team Liquigas-Cannondale in 2010 and was representing his team at the Tour of Beijing 2011 in the young riders’ classification.
He triumphantly told cyclingnews, “Today was very, very fast on big roads. The team was fantastic to me. Peter Sagan [who finished second], [Davide] Cimolai, all the team rode for me."
His major feats during the season include the general classifications win in GP Costa degli Slovenia and Tour de Mumbai I. He dominated the Coppa Citta di Stresa and remained glorious through stages 4 and 5 at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge 2011.
Viviani started the 118 kilometre stage 5 after a fresh stage win as he rode way securing the third position at the race. Denis Galimzyanov of team Katusha won the stage with Juan Jose Haedo of Saxo Bank at second position.
Viviani managed to score the 88th position after the final general classifications. He was 9 minutes and 20 seconds behind the race leader Tony Martin of HTC-Highroad as David Millar finished second with Christopher Froome at third position.
Team Liquigas-Cannondale was at 8th position after the final general classifications as Team Sky stole the lead. Omega Pharma-Lotto held the second spot with team Rabobank and RadioShack at the third and fourth positions, respectively.
Previously, the cyclist had only 1 UCI point to his acclaim. After an outstanding performance at the Tour of Beijing 2011, Elia managed to gain 25 UCI points which certainly improved his UCI ranking for the season.
He is looking forward to more exciting seasons in future. Meanwhile, he has his eyes fixed on the main races including London Olympics 2012, Tour of Flanders and Giro d’ Italia, 2012.
