The Olympique de Marseille coach is far from pleased after Les Phoceens conceded a late goal against Borussia Monchengladbach in their Europa League tie this Thursday
It was a much better performance from the French club and they were on course to collecting all three points on Thursday. However, a late goal from the Bundesliga outfit denied Elie Baup’s side a much needed victory.
And coach, Elie Baup is not pleased with the result. The 57-year-old feels that Marseille were the better side of the two and deserved to win at Stade Velodrome.
While talking to reporters, the Frenchman stated that other than conceding a late goal, Les Phoceens did pretty well on the pitch and it was a good professional performance from the players. However, the coach feels that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 should have
scored another goal to put the game to bed, which they failed to do and were punished for that in the end.
Talking about Borussia Monchengladbach’s late goal, the former Saint-Etienne coach said that it was painful seeing his side concede so late in the match. The coach added that Les Phoceens scored a late goal against Fenerbahce in Europe this season but this
time they were on the receiving end.
"It's always painful to concede such a late goal. We scored right at the death against Fenerbahce (to draw 2-2) and now we've seen one go against us this time.”
Baup said that Marseille always prefer playing attacking football and the opposing team took advantage of that. Although the Ligue 1 outfit created a number of chances they couldn’t double their lead.
“We had two warnings just before the goal, and we needed to stay focused at the back. Marseille always try to get forward into the opposition half and create chances,” the Frenchman told reporters.
Praising their Thursday’s opponents, the 57-year-old said that Borussia Monchengladbach like to play on the counter-attack but feels that Marseille should have done better to stop them from scoring.
“They like to play on the counter-attack, and you are never completely safe from that threat. We knew that but we couldn’t hold onto the lead.”
