The French tactician was satisfied of nine-man http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127’s performance as they settled for a share of spoils with Evian TG. It was a hard fought point, but yet not enough for title contenders to keep them on the top of the Ligue 1 table
Olympique de Marseille had to settle for a draw against fellow Ligue 1 side, Evian TG as they were reduced to 9 men during the game. The club coach, Elie Baup feels content with the result the team was able to produce, finding it to be a strong display despite
the stalemate.
The coach was proud of the team’s performance following the team’s draw against relegation threatened Evian TG. The Frenchman believes that Les Phoceens are capable of keeping it simple and threatening attacking play if needed be. The former goalkeeper expects
his players to replicate the same solid performance in their upcoming games. Andre-Pierre Gignac scored the opening goal of the game for his club, which was equalised by Yannick Sagbo's penalty. The coach expressed his views after the game:
"We showed ourselves to be solid, especially at the back, and capable of keeping it simple and getting the ball from back to front. We need to play like that in the coming weeks. That is what we were doing at the start of the season and that is what we are
trying to do again now.”
However, Baup also acknowledged the hurdles Marseille had to face after conceding the penalty. He believes that the situation got quite complicated after two of their players were sent off during the game. The only realistic option the Marseille-based club
had, was to hold on for a draw, and that’s exactly what they did. The coach explained:
“After the goal things became complicated, with the penalty, their equaliser, and the fact that we were down to ten men, then nine. We just needed to stay solid and hold out for a draw.”
Despite a setback in terms of points, the Frenchman is optimistic regarding the upcoming fixtures. Baup believes that Marseille have the necessary potential to produce positive results, along with an urge to win games.
“We can build on this performance and try to win next week. It is still not enough because we always hope to win.”
