The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach and midfielder are happy to see the club stretch its unbeaten run in the league to 6 games after the 1-0 win over Evian TG
Six games, six wins means that Olympique de Marseille have set a new personal record for the best start to a season. The club has made history after winning all opening six games of the new campaign and if they manage to win the next two games as well, Les
Phoceens will steal a record that has been Olympique Lille’s property since 1936 who won eight games on a stretch.
Despite winning the first 8 games of the campaign all those years ago, Lille managed to finish only fifth in the Championnat.
However, this statistic should not worry Marseille as all those teams that have won their opening six or seven games of the season, have either become champions or finished the season as the second best team in the league.
Moreover, OM lead the Ligue 1 standings with 4 points ahead of Lyon and 6 ahead of bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain. The recent win over Evian was not an easy one however. Elie Baup’s charges came up against a resolute side that worked laboriously to keep
Gignac and co at bay.
And, the game was a tough one according to Baup who feels that there will be times when the team will experience awkward moments.
“Our opponents put a lot of pressure on us, had good rhythm at key moments and were very committed as we expected. So we suffered a lot. Points must be taken, there will be awkward moments.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morgan-Amalfitano-c26799 scored the only goal of the game. Only last week, Marseille mounted a great comeback against Fenerbahce in a Europa League encounter which they were trailing 2-1 with 21 minutes to go.
And, Benoit Cheyrou feels that his team’s task is not done yet even though there is a lot of happiness in the camp.
“There is a lot of happiness, we take pleasure, you can enjoy it considering what we experienced last season. We will try to continue this series as long as possible.”
Next week, Marseille play against Valenciennes before the Clasico (against PSG). And, a victory in their next game would certainly pile up the pressure on PSG.
