Utterly disgusted by the dismissal of right-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rod-Fanni-c31402 during his team’s 2-0 Coupe de la Ligue defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique de Marseille coach has taken the issue to the referee and has even gone on to state that
last night’s game was ten men against twelve, thus hinting that the referee was clearly favouring the home side.
This was Marseille’s third consecutive defeat this season after initially losing out to Troyes (Ligue 1) and Borussia Monchengladbach (Europa League). The now-former reigning champions of Coupe de la Ligue 1 will now have one less competition to worry about
but Baup is not feeling the same way.
The former Toulouse tactician is not blaming his players for the defeat as he feels that they did what they could in a difficult game with a man down.
Instead, the Frenchman says that the referee was guilty for making things so tough for his side by calling in a penalty and giving Rod Fanni a very harsh penalty. Rod Fanni handled the ball outside the penalty box so there was indeed no question of a red
card.
“I learned something tonight. A foul outside the penalty area could be punished by a penalty. We were reduced to ten men and it necessary makes things more complicated. At half-time, we saw that this generosity did not make things easy. We tried to believe.
After the second goal came, it got complicated. Even if we were aware that it was unfair, there was the desire to go after the game and have a successful outcome. It was a decision that tipped the game against us.”
Not willing to mince his words Baup defended striker Loic Remy when a journalist asked about the France international’s performance. Baup said that Remy lacked support due to obvious reasons and was not unable to shine due to the absence of Andre-Pierre
Gignac.
