The 26-year-old has been impressive for the Rhone giants this season and has already scored 5 goals in the Ligue 1. Thanks to Gignac’s impressive form, Les Phoceens are currently first in the league with 19 points on the table after 8 games.
Marseille coach, Elie Baup is pleased with the striker’s return to form and has backed the player to keep playing like that in the upcoming games for the club.
While talking to reporters, the 57-year-old stated that the Frenchman has been really impressive for the Ligue 1 outfit this season and it’s a pleasing factor for everyone at the club.
Praising the former Lorient player, Baup said that the Frenchman deserves credit for all this. Gignac has worked really hard to get back to his personal best and the coach has praised the player for his positive attitude.
The coach added that the 26-year-old has put his injury problems past him and is looking forward to help Marseille achieve their objectives this season.
"He owes it to himself. The most important thing is that he has no injuries and he's in good shape.”
Baup feels that playing regularly has helped the player regain his confidence and other teammates feel comfortable playing with him.
"He's a striker and he needs to be in peak physical condition. Starting games helps him, and having his team-mates' confidence does too."
Baup's assistant coach, Franck Passi, added that what Gignac is doing at the moment is simply amazing and he has been really impressive on the pitch. Not only he is playing well in the air, his game with his back to the goal has improved a lot in recent
times, and that has pleased the bosses at the club.
"I am amazed by what Gignac is doing, especially in terms of the way he is playing with his back to goal, he has made great progress. He is playing very well in the air, too, its new string to his bow and it's good for him and for us."
