The Olympique de Marseille coach has played down the hype regarding his side’s fine start to the Ligue 1 season, following a convincing 1-0 win over Montpellier at Stade de la Mosson
Les Phoceens are comfortably sitting at the top of the table following their victory against the reigning champions over the weekend, making it three wins from three games.
While many have already tipped the Rhone giants to be title contenders this season, Elie Baup has refused to get carried away.
While talking to reporters after the match against La Paillade, the club coach stated that being at top pleases him but it’s just a start.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international said that the league has just started and Marseille need to build on from here. According to the coach, being at top after three matches is an important thing, but to continue this fine run is more important for Les Phoceens
in their quest for the Ligue 1 title.
"Nine points in three games - this is obviously a good thing," he said. "[But] all this is temporary. You need a few more games than that. Let's see where we are after 10 games to assess our potential. It is especially important to take points to work on
and improve."
When asked about his side’s performance against the defending champions, the former Bordeaux player stated that Marseille were lucky to win the match.
The 57-year-old admitted that the Rhone giants were wasteful on certain occasions and they made a lot of errors during the game.
“The first period was complicated for both teams. There were many technical errors, players losing the ball. We had a better second period in terms of organisation and use of the ball,” the former Saint-Etienne coach told reporters.
When asked about his side’s chances this season, Elie Baup stated that anything is possible in football and Marseille have the ability to challenge the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130, Lille and Montpellier for the Championelle glory.
“The difficulty is to maintain our discipline, our game-plan. We must stay calm and keep our humility.”
